There are no Ads on this site at all. That much, I can promise you. I can also say without question that I have used this site for the two or three years I've had it up with no problems.

You did say you were using McAfee and I feel compelled to point out that a lot of virus scan programs tend to detect certain programs, like keys for other applications or many multitudes of .exe files as "malware/virus/etc". Not to mention that one virus scan program can also detect another virus scan program also as a malware/virus, etc.

I would suggest you and Ranpalan (probably one of the best people around here I know with computers) should have a private discussion over what might be causing the problem. I am more than 90% sure it is not this forum on its own. And if there are pictures that are causing this problem, it seems only you have had this problem which makes me even more sure that it's something on your end.  :crying:

Welp... I'm fucked...

PeeVixen32: I'm willing to attempt to figure out the problem over MSN (ranpalan@hotmail.com)/AIM (ranpalan)/IRC (#AGD @ irc.rizon.net) if you're willing. The IRC is hosted separately from these forums and it is a reputable network, meaning you certainly will not get infected from it. I suspect that whatever malware you had was merely dormant; I doubt that Star is correct about it being some innocent file, as you would know which file it is and would be able to delete it. Still, I've seen forums have malicious code added (although I did not detect anything like it on here).

Star, do you think you could send her an email containing that paragraph? EDIT: Change of plan, I'm willing to provide support, but I'm not going to try fuck Windows into working on this poor little thing.

All I know is that certain virus scan programs have detected massive problems with even my own computer over programs that aren't really viruses at all but are merely .exe files to assist other programs.  I'm actually more with you on the idea that it was a dormant file - my own computer man has at least taught me that much, lol

And your feelings toward Windows are well known... I just thought that if anyone knew how to fix a problem of this nature, you would. *shrug*

Welp... I'm fucked...

I should probably have crossed out what I said, not deleted it; I had at first intended to visit the site from a Windows virtual machine, and see if I can get some viruses that way, but the thing turned out to be so bloody dead I gave up. I'm still willing to help in the other ways I offered.

Yay I bump old topic but I think I have some useful information that can help? >_<

Sites that promote third party advertising are the sites you need to be careful of.

Yes third parties are required to abide by terms presented to them before being allowed to host ads on a site but that does not do any justice if the site itself does not do its own screening of the ads for malicious programming.

Chances are the sites you visit are legit and those viruses you get from the sites are actually coming from their advertisements.

Things to look for and things to avoid:

-Popups -- If you're getting popups chances are you've already picked up some form of virus or malware. Additionally if a popup appears right as you enter a site chances are You DO NOT WANT TO BE THERE.

-False AV ads -- If you see an anti virus popup ad asking you to allow it to scan your computer for viruses chances are you've got a virus or adware somewhere on your computer. Easiest solution is cold shutoff your computer as any interaction with these sorts of windows could trigger the ad to install malicious programs on your system.

-"Are you sure you want to navigate away..." - See this? Usually you can't do anything with your browser until you select yes or no. You're better off not touching it. Shutoff and restart your computer directly via the power button. Start a NEW browsing Session.

Tracking cookies can also be potentially harmful to your computer as I believe these will allow ads to find your computer when you are browsing online. Clear your cache and other temporary files.

Basically anything abnormal that requires you to make a selection choice has the potential to grant you viruses. Also beware of sites that boast galleries but often redirect you all over the place instead of where it claims to go.
