Title: what the hell happened to cartoon network?
Post by: Merchant_Of_Death on December 29, 2007, 06:02:40 PM
They're shows used to be good. Why did they start making all these annoying/pointless cartoons?

The only toon I'm like a dedicated fan of nowadays is "Aqua Teen Hunger Force". I might watch a 1st season episode of Spongebob, you know, before Stephen Hillenburg sold his soul and flushed the show down the drain.

Right now I'm thinking about letting my future kids watch most of what's on Cartoon Network, and this is coming from a person who once thought parents keeping their kids from watching kid channels was the most vile thing. *sigh* I'm getting old.

Yeah, Toonami did fall PRET-TY far didn't it?  I miss those old cartoons.  Like The Real Adventures of Johnny Quest, Thundercats, ect...  I REALLY wish they hadn't moved it like that.  I also thought a lot of the shows they put up (Squirrel Boy, Camp Lazlo, etc...) were really stupid.

And another thing, why is Gossebumps, a live action show, on CARTOON Network?

eh, I agree, most of the stuff on there sucks now. Toonami used to be cool though. Megas XLR was AWESOME.

anyway, I feel the same way about the Disney channel. Horrible acting and stupid storyline in 90% of their showes IMO >_>

Maybe being stupid is the new "smart".  LOL  That would explain why EVERYBODY seems to want to make stuff as stupid as they poissibly can.

I thought Ronin Warriors was part of the Johnny Quest era.

As for the stupidest shows ever, it's probably a tied between Camp Lazlo and My gym Partner's a Monkey.

Boomerang has got a lot of the classic Hanna-Barbara cartoons on it. From common stuff like Yogi Bear to the obscure like Cattanooga Cats.

 That's it!!!!  That's what they've been tryin ta do, IT MAKES SENSE NOW!!!!!  Damn you Cartoon Network!  How dare you betray the very foundations on which you were built!  You were supposed to KEEP us inside and show us how WONDERFUL TV could be!

:crying: I can't believe you would betray us.  WHY?!!!!

Cartoon Network has lost it's greatness. It first started with the logo change. Then the announcer became a female. Then good shows like Dexter's Laboratory and SWAT Kats went off the air. Then Miguzi, the crappy clone of Toonami came along. Then Toonami died. I used to love Cartoon Network but now I hate it.

This is the reason everyone watches anime now. Even little kids would think these 2 shows are lame. It's almost like cartoon network is trying to get people to turn off the TV and go outside.

And screw that. It's cold outside.
that is quite true, unfortuntilly little kids are usually not allowed to watch the subbed versions on youtube or whatever, they're forced to watch the dub(which suck as well) on most stations like cartoon network, jetix, nick ect.
example:
Digimon data squad(savers):savers was probally the best digimon series ever.I was disgusted by the dub. It's times like these I wish you could still go around shooting people.
Naruto: basicially the same a Digimon savers, though it seems like it's getting slightly better latly, the voices still suck balls, shippuuden will probally suck worse unless they put naruto shippuuden on AS because of sai's insults.

yah and pretty much every dubbed anime on toonami.

well being in Canada I don't know much about cartoon network. but ytv the Canadian equivalent of cartoon network has aired all of the nickelodeon cartoons and the ones now a days seem to be sub-par compared to the ones from 6 years ago. As for other cartoons most of the cartoons on ytv are the same ones on cartoon network. The only improvement has been the general moving away of the keep it weird angle the station ran between 1996 and 2002. And the creation of bionix has helped, (a combination of adultswim and toonami). and they air good anime and shows like gundam seed, naruto, and inu-yasha have less censorship then they do on cartoon network, and ghost in the shell: stand alone complex only had 3 edits total. Also in the last month teletoon (a channel known for its almost complete lack of anime) aired akira, apple seed, armitage the III: poly-matrix and armitage the III: dual matrix.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeey i like chowder, out of the new shows it beats them all...so far....i hate class of 3000.

Nyway CN is still the most watchable, with all the teenage crap Nick and Disney dish out every year, it still appeals to veteran toon viewers who just want to watch something that isnt about some whiny teenage girl who learns obvious lessons.

true dat. Except if disney would actually do a decent job at dubbing digimon so it didn't become crap when they dub it it would become the GOD of disney.

Because Cartoon Network is a network that targets children. They show live action kid's movies occasionally.

children AND cartoon veterans. as u can see certain shows may have sexual innuendos :P

Oh that reminds me of a show I used to watch as a kid called shadow raiders. I first watched it when I was like 8 or 9. They recently started airing reruns on ytv in Canada at 11:00pm and in episodes there was so much innuendo That I find myself questioning how it ever aired on TV at 8:00pm.

Oh Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon.  There were a few years in there where the shows were downright smart.  Funny, multi-layered...  who here doesn't have a multi-DVD collection of Invader Zim?  And I for one was introduced to anime by the (admittedly awful) English dub of Dragonball Z on Toonami.  Man, I miss those shows.

There are a few gems here or there, but for the most part they're either pale imitations or simply empty shadows of what once was.

Disney Channel has always sucked, though :P

what the hell is that "baykugan" anime even about

Bakugan is yet another anime show based on a children's card game that's soley made in order to get kids to buy the game.

I used to love watching cartoon network, but they keep taking off all the shows i like and replacing them with junk. I miss looking forward to watching toonami every day as there would always be a show worth watching. Now, Its a rarity i even turn to that channel outside adult swim anymore.
Title: Re: what the hell happened to cartoon network?

Actually, Bakugan isn't on toonami.  It's on "Dynamite Action Squad!" ( *rant- %*#^#%^#*#!!!), which should be taken off due to the stupid antics of the little kids in between shows.  The only things i watch on there now (aside from toonami and whatever anime makes it to adult swim.) are Teen Titans and Ben10 Alien Force.

I live in Britain, and only got all the kids channels 16 months ago.

They are full of SHIT.

I grew up on the basic four channels, and they had awesome programmes! Thundercats, Wizard Of Oz (animated version), Bananas In Pajamas, even the old Barney The Dinosaur episodes! They were proper classics, not this BULLSHIT they pump into kids' heads now.

ESPECIALLY High School Musical. I WANT TO KILL DISNEY FOR THAT ABOMINATION.

That is all :D

The title itself was an abomination before it was even produced hey bananas in pajamas i remember that i even remmeber the song ahem,,,

bananas in pajamas are dananana stairs
bananas in pajamas are dananana airs
bananas in pajamas are chasing teddy bears
dandnandnblablablablabla underwears...

yup thats the theme song and im the only one who remembers it.

Well i'm sorry to bump this thread but after having watched a ton of Ben 10 and Ben 10: Alien Force I would say that those shows are perfectly fine entertainment and a serious redeeming factor.

Toonami was better when Moltar was around. He didn't take any shit from anyone, man.

Except for Johnny Quest, I liked what was on it. Especially Reboot, they had it on there for a stint. That show is made of awesome and win.

Nowadays, yes, the programming on it has gone down, but we're a totally different generation. Our innuendos in cartoons are to us as censorship and PC is to kids today. So, unfortunately, since everyone has become paranoid...

God forbid we see some kid watch gore and blood, no, but Tom and Jerry is perfectly fine. And they come very close to killing the crap out of each other!

Chowder is one of the redeeming shows for me; it has that surreal edge to it that reminds me of some 60's or 70's cartoons. Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends is awesome, as is Fairly Oddparents. They have a second 'Nick' on satellite in the US that shows older Nick shows like KaBLAM!, Zim, Ren and Stimpy, and the like. I usually tune into that or watch some Pink Panther/Underdog on Boomerang.

Damn lucky people with satellite TV. I can't say I ever liked Ren and Stimpy, but KaBLAM! was fun (with MELTMAN... with the power to.... MELT!) and Rocko's Modern Life!

Rocko's was good. I can't believe that you consider Fosters to be good though, that easily makes the list of my top five least favorite shows. Every single character is annoying and I swear they are trying to make it more inconsistent with each passing episode.

Not to say that more recent cartoons were all bad. Samurai Jack kicked ass.
