First, let me state unequivocally that this is not because I'm trying to be emo. This is a honest question and nothing more.
Okay, now that we got that bullshit out of the way...
What do you like to listen to when you're... well... feeling sad for... you know... whatever reason? Like, maybe you got dumped by your biggest crush... or a family member has died or something...
What do you listen to while you're laying around, feeling sad... to help you grieve during those moments?
I can only tell you that I listen to certain tracks of Final Fantasy music (being that my knowledge of other songs is rather limited and those are mostly upbeat 80's hits xD
FallenStar
Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd.
Gets me every time.
When I'm feeling depressed I usually put on some Placebo, but I also listen to that to go to sleep at night...I dunno.
when I'm sad, I would listen to sad songs and would feel really depressed.. huhuhu, weird, isn't it?
however, after that, I would cheer myself and will find a solution. Then, I will listen to hot-blooded songs to recover my spirit..
so, basically, I'm listening to two different songs when I'm sad.
It's indeed strange how listening to sad music actually can help you feel better.
At those moments I often listen to music by Tindersticks (doesn't matter which song or album, they're all very depressing :)). Somehow that usually does the trick.
I mostly listen to classical music when I'm down. Vivaldi, Bach, maybe a little Strauss.
After many years, Blink-182's "Adam's Song" can still get me down if I let it. Also "The Lonely Sheppard" (the song that plays at the end of "Kill Bill vol. 1")
evanescence - bring me to life =) very good soonn
Basically anything from the album "Fallen" by Evanessence, especially "My Immortal" That song gets me everytime, even when I'm in a very good mood.
farewell by apocalyptica
thats the only song i listen to when sad
Some of my favorite sad songs are:
Anathema - One Last Goodbye
Loreena McKennitt - The Lady of Shallot
Loreena McKennitt - Dante's Prayer
Nightwish - Dead Boy's Poem
Nightwish - Sleeping Sun
Nightwish - Kuolema Tekee Taitelijan (sp?)
Leaves' Eyes - Ankomst
Leaves' Eyes - Leaves' Eyes
X Japan - Forever Love
X Japan - Crucify My Love
X Japan - Longing

I guess it depends
some times ill listen to various songs by chopin
Chopin's Nocturne #20 in C# minor is great.
I almost exclusively listen to sad songs, but of course, "all songs are sad, but some are more sad than others".
Crossfade - Cold (heavy rock)
Abandoned Pools - The remedy (rock)
Jay Jay Johanson - The Girl I Know Is Gone (triphop/electronic but still good)
I would listen to anything thats fast going and loud when I`m down. Btw I like Ouran high host club too :P
Try Sufjan Stevens - John Wayne Gacy, Jr.
Can't believe I'm the first to post this song. MAD World by Gary Jules.
Anything sung by Miku cheers me up. I don't know why, the voice is just so mesmerizing and calm.
bring me to life is a great song when you are sad
or something from nightwish is good too.
Seconding Mad World
Oh and not sure if it was mentioned But Counting Crows - Round Here.

This song is like one of the few that can almost always get me crying for some reason....
the song "missing" and "good enough" both by evanescence
they get me every time

The damn song ain't by Gary Jules, it's by Tears For Fears. He does a cover for it, which they used for Overrated Darko.
His cover is better at emitting a mood of depression, TFF original work is more like an acid trip.

What? How is Donnie Darko overrated?
O)h yeah, Secondhand Serenade has some sad songs too...
Everyone and their grandmother is like 'OMG BEST MOVIE EVAR!!!111!1' without really understanding the movie, just that it had a Frank and a tunnel of bubbles and a plane's jet engine.
It was good before everyone started to rave about how it was THE best movie and started to psychoanalyze the movie and post shit online. That's what bothers me. It was good, yes, but everytime I see that kid I think Bubbleboy. And then I lose my shit and the movie loses its flair.

Donnie Darko bored the living SHIT out of me. And for once I'm allowed to say that because I actually sat through the two single most pointless hours of my life.
Man, same here. I know someone who forced me to watch it with him, and he
raged when i called it shit tier when it was finally over.

And he was basically acting just like this.
I liked it and for the most part understood it...though I wasn't like what Dover said people were like. I guess I don't belong here after all... :crying:
*packs bags and walks awayz*

Viva la Vida by Coldplay is pretty sad. That is, if you've seen all of Code Geass, and the AMV of it.

Oh yeah that was the first place I heard that song if your talking about the code Geass amv I'm thinking of.
That´s not actually a "Song", but "Sadame" from the "X"-TV-Version yells "TRAGEDY" whenever i hear it. Very touching is "Mama " from Christina Stürmer, as well as "Listen to the Voices".
Tori Amos - 1000 Oceans. (Not the shitty Tokio Hotel song, bleh)
"These tears I've cried
I've cried 1000 oceans
And if it seems
I'm floating in the darkness
Well, I can't believe that I would keep
Keep you from flying
And I would cry 1000 more
If that's what it takes
To sail you home
Sail you home
Sail you home"
*sniff* So sad. T^T
The Light Before We Land - The Deldagos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPCpK3SQMBI) (note: also the opening of Gunslinger Girl)
Woke From Dreaming - The Deldagos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSvNND5Qivw) (Same origin. Maybe I only find the two sad because of the anime -shrug-)
Poteryaniy Rai - Aria (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwlrEVKX5P0) (Russian, video is weird)
I was just listening to "Ghost of the Gang" by the Indigo Girls. That song really gets me... it's sort of a eulogy for an old "gang" of friends that have grown apart. It's the sort of thing that's really heartbreaking for anyone old enough to have experienced it.
Quote from: Ghost of the GangYeah we huddled against the cold in those days
By the light of a fire in a pep-rally haze
With the smoke and lives past, and a reason for livin'
No matter how bad it got, we wouldn't give in to it
It's been years, since I've seen anyone cry these tears now
Sitting here in the dark, stalling out in my car
Wishing I could bum a light
From the ghost of the gang tonight
one sad song that i know of is "broken wings" but I can't remember who made it.
Ten Years Gone by Led Zeppelin is something I listen to on rainy days when I miss my long-distance boyfriend. We can kinda relate to it, but it's a hopeful kind of sadness.
As for songs to cheer me up? No Rain by Blind Melon seems to give me a little boost no matter what. Also, Lights Out by Santigold.
If the cause of your sorrow is death, I would highly recommend Dream Theater's CD, Scenes From a Memory, which is a unique murder mystery exhibited through the viewpoint of the victim's future life, who goes to a psychiatrist to figure out why the victim's ghost is haunting his dreams. This is my favorite CD and it explores the themes involving life, death, and acceptance.
Another one of my favorite CDs is Kamelot's The Black Halo, which is the second part of Kamelot's version of Faust.
Both CDs are great for learning acceptance and gaining mental stability.
Enjoy!
usually when life's got me down a pop in my Journey Greatest Hits Albumn and just sit there staring at the walls.
well its probably moonlight shadow i love this song
and something that isnt a sad song but helps me at this times Spirit: where i belong :D
if u hear it in a certain way, anyone can make a song sound sad
I like a few sad songs.
"Moonlight shadow" *as mentioned*
and my favorite, 'All the things she said'
" Moth..er...looking at me. tell me, what do you see? yes I've lost my Miiiiiind~"
My favorite part of the song, right there.
I've been feeling pretty low recently so I think i got this covered
Stay positive - The streets
Olive - Creature of comfort
Ask DNA and Knock a little harder off the Cowboy bebop OST.
From GitS
Beauty is within us
Whats it for
I do
There are more, so many more but they don't come to mind at the moment.
When I'm upset I like to listen too songs like "Tears" By Rush, or "This I love" By Guns n' roses. They're nice slow songs good to help you when you're in that kind of mood. Or sometimes listening to silly funny songs helps to lift my spirits. but the two I said are two of my favorite slow sad songs.
The song i listen to the most when im sad is 21 Guns by Green Day. No other lyrics capture the exact feelings of depression.
It is the only song to make me think of my life as soon as the lyrics start :)
Personally, one of my favorite songs to listen to when I'm sad is Hurt, the one sung by Johnny Cash preferably. Her Morning Elegance by Oren Lavie and Chasing Pavements by Adele are close seconds though
In a shameless plug for Pink Floyd, I'd have to say the entire album The Wall is incredibly depressing.
It's a concept album about building a societal wall, pretty much isolation. Specifically, I'd cite Hey You, Nobody Home,
and Comfortably Numb. Although honorable mention goes to Another Brick in the Wall pt 1. and 3.
I have a bit of System Of A Down (Roulette, Lonely Day), and a bit of ELO believe it or not :) (When Time Stood Still etc.)
