Top Five Favorite movies you wish they would remake...

... and what changes you'd like them to make in them.

This should be a fairly self-explanatory topic - you list your top five favorite movies that you'd like to be remade and what changes you'd like to have done to them.

My list is as follows:

1. Short Circuit I and II (I count this as one movie). The changes I would like are very little; one - have an actual honest-to-god explanation of how the lightning strike makes Johnny Five alive; two - show further what happens to Skroeder after he gets fired (maybe make him a villain with a personal grudge against Johnny Five in the second movie as opposed to a dumbass jewel thief); three - fix the mistranslation/give consistency to the character "Ben"'s last name; four - show what Newton meant when he told Howard "20 years ago, you would have chauffeured us in this situation" (IOW, have a flashback where Howard changed); five - update the line where Johnny says "500 MB online" - we are WELL past that limit on computers xD

2. The Last Starfighter - This movie needs both a remake *and* a sequel wherein Xur returns with the rest of the Ko-Dan forces or wherein he gains more support from elsewhere. The changes I would make are the following; 1. Don't have Centauri die only to come back - make it a big quest or something to bring him back; 2. Needs more robots =P ; 3. updated graphics (music's fine - do NOT get rid of the 80's style of music)

3. Masters of the Universe - besides being a horrid take on the He-Man cartoon continuity, there are a few things I'd like changed; 1. As much as I like Dolph Lundgren, we really need an American blonde to have ful-filled that role, not a Swedish actor (perhaps Hulk Hogan would have fit the bill back then); 2. I always felt Teela should have betrayed He-man instead of Julie, maybe over a fit of jealousy because of how she thought He-Man and Julie were "horning in" on her own love for He-Man (might be against He-Man canon, though); 3. Get the hell rid of Gwildor - dude doesn't even belong in the movie - that role should have been Orko's;  4. Woulda been nice to see that bald cop yell "Slackers!" toward those retreating robotic soldiers - a.l.a. Back to the Future =P  5. Perhaps a mention of She-Ra or of Skeleton getting some of his power from Hordac...

4. The Karate Kid part III - first of all, remove that shit with that American girl who is Daniel's "partial" love interest before she leaves... I've always hated that. Second, bring Kumiko back! Make it so that Terry makes a bet that if Mike wins, Daniel will have to do something embarrassing but that if Daniel wins, Terry has to pay for Kumiko to come to America to get married to Daniel  :3  Third, have it so that Daniel actually has to fight Kreese and win, then Terry jumps in and starts beating the crap out of Daniel, only to end up angering Miyagi and having Miyagi and Terry fight in an epic duel (much like the end of "The Next Karate Kid" ). Fourth, DO NOT... I REPEAT.. DO NOT HIRE JACKIE CHAN for this role. AND DO NOT USE KUNG FU and call the movie "KARATE KID" =|

5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (I, II, and III as my changes would impact all of them):
First of all, it's great that the movies are based on the original comics, but that wasn't what made them so popular in the 80s - we need a movie based on the cartoon series =P.  Secondly, none of this "Michaelango is the most skilled but most brainless" shit - in any tournament, it should be the master, Leonardo, who wins; Third, for the third movie, have Leonardo romance a female Japanese swordswoman with honor and bushido and such; Four: Bring in Baxter Stockman! Seriously, the Fly was a great character! Five: Get rid of Super Shredder and instead, give him magical powers to better compete with the four turtles (like maybe having three hologram shadows like in Superman II or something) - he's already more skilled than the turtles as shown in the first movie. Six; Put Krang in the movies and the Technodrome.  =|

Alright, here are my choices... now let's see yours.  =P

Welp... I'm fucked...

As i try to come up with stuff, i realize i have not seen a lot of actual movies in my life.

1. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 - This would be completely redone, i would actually throw the original script out. Shredder would have survived the pier falling on him. How? Because he's the god damn Super Shredder, that's how! Anyway, Krang and the Technodrome would be introduced and with all the human foot soldiers in jail they would fight the robotic foot soldiers from the cartoon. The plot would be to stop Krang from opening a portal on Earth to Dimension-X, but they can't get past Super Shredder at first, so they have to find a cure to undo his mutation before they can win.

2. Demon Knight - I would drop the idea of the blood in the amulet belonging to Jesus and say it came from a more generic hero, the first one to hold the amulet. This would also make it easier to explain why the current owner of the amulet can use his or her own blood to fill it back up. I would also have Billy Zane transform into a demon before being fatally wounded, that way the movie could have a more interesting final battle.

3. Super Mario Brothers - Burn the original script! Send it to hell! I would get the guys from the Super Mario Brothers Super Show to star in it and it would take place in the Mushroom Kingdom. The princess would be dressed as such and Bowser would have a good costume.

4. Masters of the Universe - I would also rewrite this to make it more like the cartoon series. The last 15 minutes (at least) of the movie would be a bone crushing (lol) fight between He-Man and Skeletor.

5. Mrs. Doubtfire - Mrs. Doubtfire would be 18 and single instead of 40 and married with kids, and he would look really good in makeup and girl's clothes. There would be several make-out scenes and some dry humping with guys that don't know Doubtfire is a guy. In the end it would easily have an R rating.
On the internet you're only as smrt as your spell checker.

Here's my 5 to be remade... I guess they're the films that I saw potential in but would have done completely differently... as opposed to the ones I like most and wouldn't change...

1. The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen - Adapted from the as yet unfinished graphic novel by Alan Moore... there lies the first mistake as Watchmen and V for Vendetta (both far superior films) were released years after the graphic novel had been completed. But what's most annoying about the film is the way the story is told... it can't decide if it wants to be a big budget film with lots of stars (Shaun Connery for one... ) or true to the graphic novel and so ends up being neither.

2. Casino Royale - Now I like this film quite a bit... but its the depictions of poker that have me wanting to remake it. Now I understand the idea of wanting to spice things up a bit... but the way most of the hands go, James Bond is made to look nothing more than lucky... and considering he's meant to be aware of what he's doing to win this isn't the best look for him in a film, centered around a big game of poker.

3. Shutter Island - A more recent release, I'd remake Shutter Island so as to make it a little more accessible, but really I wouldn't change much... I'd probably just add in a few more hints as to the twist in it.

4. Silent Hill - Now here's a movie, based off a game... that I think is probably one of the worst films I own, not only is it supposed to be a horror/thriller and does neither well, the story isn't exactly logical either... at least not obviously so. In terms of remaking this one I'd probably play the video game and then have a long think about even making the movie

5. Cloverfield - A lot of people find this film amazingly good, but for me its just a glorified home-movie with not so great realism and not much of a plot. I wasn't looking for much when I watched this film... and I didn't find much... I'd probably just end up rewriting the script a lot for this one.

Now having said all that there's a few near perfect films that I wouldn't change at all; 28 Days Later, Taxi Driver, Saw, Trading Places, Forrest Gump, and Miami Vice   (that's all I can think of right now)

Anyway... that's my thoughts

Couldn't you at least pick a film that isn't less than ten years old, JackO?

I mean, aren't there some nifty classics from the "age of the dinosaurs" (1980s for us old fossils) or at least 90s films you'd like to see remade? =P

Welp... I'm fucked...

Those are movies I want to see remade... I didn't realise there was an age limit on the films  :dots:

As for nifty classics... most of the films I've watched from the 80s or 90s have been decent because they're the ones that have been reccomended to me to watch.

Sorry. You'd think relatively new movies wouldn't need to be remade so quickly. =P

1. Brainstorm (1983) -- Mainly for casting: let's get someone who won't "drown" IRL as the love interest this time, i.e., NOT Lindsay Lohan.  Script changes would be extensive, but merely technical.

I don't have five, but I am looking forward to Logan's Run (2012) as well.  The world is so God-damn sick of religious idiocy; it would be nice to see existential questions addressed by sci-fi for a change, instead of documentaries with boring old farts droning on about global warming and Peak Oil.  Sex and death!

Videodrome - It'd be interesting to see a present-day take on the story with the technology around now.
Three Days of the Condor - Still pretty relevant today.
First Blood - The lead character as a troubled Iraq/Afghanistan war vet would work.
Mad Max - The original itself was sort of prophetic, though.
The Running Man - I'd like to see a version more faithful to the original novel.

All of these remakes would have to be done right, of course.

Original series star trek remakes would be cool :D

Merlin (1998) - might be nice :D I have the movie but I say with 13 years difference from then to now I'm sure there's a lot that could be improved or touched upon better.

Machine Girl - I challenge you to watch this movie without so much as cracking a smile. The movie's budget is so bad that it's hilarious. This movie is a must have just for the laughs but it's so low budget that your fourth grade class could have made the movie themselves... ._. As far as getting the point across... the movie lacks badly considering it has a supposedly dark plot theme to it. I'd like to see a much better quality and more true to the theme version of this movie but I think for that to happen it'd have to be American Made instead of Japanese. For some reason Japan has the best Cartoons (Anime) but their live action movies all kind of suck... (there are a few exceptions but not many)

IDK about my next 2 I'll have to think on it >_>  <_<
